How do I see replies to an email or post that I've sent out on Substack?

Your Substack creator email is an alias to the address on your Substack account, which means when a subscriber replies to an email or newsletter, you'll receive it in your inbox, just like a regular email.

All Substack posts are sent from an email address with the format [subdomain]@substack.com. At this time, there currently isn't an option to change or otherwise customize the send email address. However, you can customize the email address where you receive replies to your emails and newsletter posts.

  1. Head to your publication's Settings page and scroll to the Community section.
  2. In the "Forward reader emails to" section, enter an email where you'd like to receive subscriber replies.
  3. Click "Save" and moving forward, any replies will be sent to the email you've added.

If you aren't receiving any replies from readers, we recommend these troubleshooting tips:

  • Check Your Email Settings: Ensure you can receive emails at your Substack account by checking your publication's Settings page. Under Emails, ensure the "Who can reply to your emails" option is set to anything but "No one". This will allow you to receive emails forwarded from your Substack alias.

  • Email Forwarding: Emails sent to your Substack alias are automatically forwarded to the email address listed as the owner of your Substack publication or to the email address in the "Forward reader emails to" section. Check the Inbox and Spam of the email addresses associated with your Substack publication.

Tip: Only want to receive replies from your subscribers? View steps on how to change those settings here.
