Start by enabling comments for your publication:
- Navigate to your publication's Settings and click on Community in the left navigation bar.
- Slide the toggle to the right next to "Enable comments, likes, and restacks".
After enabling comments:
Choose whether to allow comments on a per-post basis. From the post editor, click Settings.
- Everyone- If the post audience is set to Everyone, you'll see the option for everyone to comment. This means that any reader, subscriber or non-subscriber, will be able to leave a comment on the post. If they do not have a Substack profile, they'll be prompted to create one.
- Paid subscribers only- Only paid subscribers to your publication can leave a comment on the post.
- Founding members- If the post audience is set to founding members only, then only founding members can comment on the post
- No one- Comments will be disabled for the post.
Free subscribers cannot comment on a paid post. Only paid subscribers can comment on paid posts. For posts shared with everyone, you can choose whether all readers or only paid subscribers can comment.
Tip: If you'd like to lock your post to prevent readers from leaving new comments, head back to your post settings and select "Allow comments from no one (disable comments)."
How do I pin a comment?
If there's a comment that you'd like to pin to the top of the comment thread, click on the three dots next to the desired comment. From the menu, select "Pin". That comment will now appear with a "Pinned" label and appear above the rest of the comments on a post. You can pin more than one comment on a post.
What are restacks in the comments section?
When someone restacks your post, it can appear in the Home feed of their subscribers and followers. Now, restacks can also appear in the comments section of the web version of your posts. Readers can choose between a Comments tab or Restacks tab.
